Yungaburra The village of Yungaburra has existed
largely unchanged since 1910, with many of the original buildings still
remaining. Like many of the Tableland towns, Yungaburra has an
undeniable country charm and has several art and craft galleries and
displays, restaurants, and a wide variety of accommodation. Yungaburra's
central location to the crater lakes and Lake Tinaroo make it the ideal
focal point for any visitor interested in recreational activities
including sailing, boating, swimming, canoeing, bush-walking,
water-skiing and sail boarding. Also only minutes
from Yungaburra is the famous Curtain Fig Tree. This wonder of mother
nature is a must see! Taking a short walk through the rainforest, you
will encounter The Curtain Fig Tree in all its glory, standing 50
meters tall and spreading to 39 meters wide at the base, the tree of
the Tablelands is over 800 years old. The
Yungaburra produce and craft markets, held on the fourth Saturday of
each month, are another feature of Yungaburra's appeal, and combined
with quality accommodation and top class restaurants, the heritage
village of Yungaburra should be part of every visitors itinerary. Lake Barrine At
the top of the Gillies Range, just minutes from the historic township
of Yungaburra is Lake Barrine where the stable water level gives a tidy
bank with rainforest right down to the water, much of it reflected in
secluded bays. Many of Far North Queensland's
timbers can be seen on the walk around Lake Barrine, including the
giant Kauri Pines, and the wildlife likely to be spotted include
Eastern Water Dragons, and Amethyst Pythons sunning themselves on logs.
Enjoy a cruise on the lake and a Devonshire tea before you begin on your way again. Lake Eacham Nearby
is the 489 hectare Lake Eacham National Park, and as with Lake Barrine,
Lake Eacham is a volcanic crater lake full of crystal clear water and
surrounded by lush tropical highland rainforest. Lake
Eacham also offers swimming, bush walking through the rainforest that
surrounds the lake, prolific bird life and an astonishing range of
rainforest animals. Enjoy a picnic or BBQ on the grassy banks at the
edge of the Lake.
